Big Boy Bed

Can it really be this easy??

Last night after reading books, I told Dylan it was night-night time. I held out my arms to get hugs and put him in his crib. He said “bed.” Highly doubting he’d stay in his big boy bed for more than a few minutes I said okay, gave kisses and cuddles, tucked his blankie (“buggin”) in next to him, and left the room.

Twenty minutes later I checked on him and he was sound asleep! He stayed there all night, and this morning when I peeked in to check on him, he was sitting up, sucking his thumb, just waiting. When he saw me he said “I want out.” Apparently he doesn’t realize the big boy bed means newfound freedom to get “out” whenever you want to. How cute is that?

So again tonight, we read our books, then I said it was night-night time, he crawled right over and snuggled up in his flannel sheets. I had the monitor turned up high and could hear him moving around quite a bit, but he didn’t make a peep, and it didn’t sound like he was playing with books or anything else in his room, just getting adjusted in bed.

I tiptoed upstairs, and used the night setting on my camera to get these two shots of him. The flash is super bright for just a second, so while it appears he’s sleeping with the lights on, they really aren’t.

Tornado in January!

It’s been an interesting weather day. Yesterday the mercury hit 60, breaking the old record of 49 degrees from the 1940’s. Then today we were in the 60’s agai! We had severe weather today and a tornado touched down at Edward’s Apple Orchard, the orchard we visit every fall. The orchard is about 12 miles from our house, so the tornado wasn’t far away. Luckily it’s not exactly the season for apple orchard visits, and no one was hurt. All 8 buildings on their land were either completely destroyed or had the roofs torn off, but the orchard trees themselves are fine, and it sounds like they will be back in business this fall with some new buildings!

Play Ball!

Dylan is feeling much better today! He had a few rough nights and slow days, but today his energy was back in full force! He still has a cough and a drippy nose, but at least he’s acting like himself again.

While they were watching a bit of football, Dylan and Daddy also played soccer!

Dylan is still perfecting his ball throwing skills. A few times when he threw the ball it went backwards! Whoops!

Later, while I made dinner, the boys relaxed and watched some football together. It looks quite peaceful, but this “watching” lasted only a moment! Then it was time to move on to a new activity!

Today I told Dylan that when I go to the hospital to have his baby brother, he is going to go play at Abby and Joey’s house. He said “okay, shoes” and took off to find his shoes. He was a little upset that we weren’t going to Abby and Joey’s now.
Oh, something else funny to share - lately Dylan has been standing at the basement door, saying “down, play”. So many of our friends have a play room in the basement, he’s apparently convinced we’re hiding a play room down in our basement!
Everyday I am amazed at how his verbal skills improve. Today he said “Daddy, go get the ball.” WOW, we were impressed - a five word sentence!

A case of pink eye

Poor little baby...his first ever prescription in life and it's for pink eye. Yesterday when Dylan woke up from his nap his eye was all goopy. It wasn't too pink, but definitely glued shut. This morning same thing only worse. He's got the eye thing, a terrible cough and a leaky faucet of a runny nose.

Brian's been an especially great daddy today - taking Dylan to the doctor and putting in eye drops. Tomorrow we'll do the same split shift plan, with Brian taking the morning and me coming home at noon for afternoon duty.

I am amazed at Dylan - even though he obviously doesn't feel well, his energy is up and spirits are high. Of course having a break now and then to watch the Thomas movie doesn't hurt either. We have to use the eye drops four times a day. He definitely doesn't like it, and struggles against you when you try to pin him down, but once you tell him you're all done with his eye he instantly cheers up. Even tonight I put a little Vicks Baby Vapor Rub on his nose; it's a bit raw and he didn't appreciate having his nose touched yet again, but the minute you say 'all done with your nose' he simply says 'okay.'

We're pretty darn lucky parents to have such a great little guy.
